Living the’Teenage Dream’? Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s new romance.

New couple alert! If you haven’t already heard, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are at centre stage as the new ‘it’ couple of Hollywood, well for now at least. It has only been a few weeks since they enjoyed a romantic get-away to picturesque Hawaii where they confirmed their romance. Now pictures of the unlikely couple holding hands are everywhere.

katy ffs

Is he bringing new girlfrkaty in londoniend Katy to England to meet the family already? Surely not … SPOTTED – the budding new love birds were seen together yesterday having touched down at Heathrow airport enjoying each other’s company. What’s the special occasion? –The jet-setting couple were only in London for a few hours (phew) as a ‘private jet whisked them away to another location’,The Daily Mail reported.

Having only begun dating in January of this year, the couple may be moving too quickly. Celebrities are notorious for rushing in to relationships and then breaking up practically the next month. (I mean, how long did Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas date for again?) Both having just come out of very public relationships, is this an instant love or rushed attraction?

Are the ex’s for or against…? – A source told E! News that Bloom’s ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr, is ‘happy’ for Orlando and apparently has no anger towards Orlando for dating Katy. The source further told E! that Kerr thinks Perry is a ‘really cool woman and talented singer’. Ahh, no drama here I guess.

Hopefully their relationship lasts, because everyone deserves to be in a loving relationship. But, I will probably be here in a month’s time talking about their split, you know how celebs are… Just kidding!

Hope you guys liked this post. Enjoy the rest of your relaxed Sunday. See Ya.

‘NINA’:Biopic Backlash (Opinion Piece)

A forthcoming biopic about Nina Simone, an American singer songwriter and civil rights activist, has generated a lot of controversy over its casting. American actress Zoe Saldana has been cast as Nina Simone  and in the trailer she is presented in black face and a nose prosthetic. Though Saldana is of Puerto descent, she identifies herself as “half black and half Latina.”

Nina Simone was a musical icon in the late 1960’s, a time where her physical attributes were dismissed. ‘To Be Young, Gifted and Black” a song dedicated to the potential of black men and women who haven’t been acknowledged.

Comments made on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter questioned why black actresses with a dark skin complexion were not considered to authentically play this role, like Lupita Nyong’o for example . “Completely insulting” these were one of the comments made by a social media user on the subject.

Nina Simone’s daughter took to Twitter saying, “My mum was raised in a time where she was told her skin was too dark and her nose too wide. Appearance wise this was not the best choice.” Saldana responded with a simple statement saying, “I’ll tell you what freedom is to me, no fear, i mean literally no fear, #NinaSimone.”

Although people didn’t focus on Saldana’s acting ability, however fans are not convinced she is the right person to represent the nuances of life as a dark skinned black woman.

Grown up or sewn up ? Bella Hadid’s surgery rumours.

Yesterday, the internet was at a standstill when ‘unrecognizable’ photos of 19 –year old model Bella Hadidcirculated on the web, sporting a much different facial physique.

Rachel Moon, who wrote a piece on Bella’s surgery accusations in the ‘Mirror’,gained attention with a bold headline, ‘Bella looks COMPLETLEY different’. Certainly this would catch the eye of anyone.

The photo in the ‘Mirror’ that had people taken aback was a side-by-side photo of the beauty in 2010 and a more recent photo of her in 2016. Admittedly, there is a clear difference in her features, but the article was very critical of her, using words such as ‘unrecognizable’, ‘VERY different‘,and ‘hugely insecure’. A lot can happen to a young teenage girl in six years.

I’m sure everyone has gone through that awkward stage of not growing in to their features yet, right?

The two pictures apparently demonstrate that her nose is more rounded now and her lips are plumper. This is what ‘She went to town with her dad’s credit card’ and paid for, a source told the ‘Mirror’, and many people are assuming the same thing.

The article allowed for Bella’s voice to be heard,‘Bella told Seventeen magazine that it was difficult constantly being compared to her big sister Gigi’.–Being in the limelight at a young age, you are vulnerable to being scrutinized and compared. It is a part of the lifestyle unfortunately.

However, the article was too quick to assume the surgery rumours were true. All girls are insecure at some point in their lives and the pressure to look ‘perfect’ is an ongoing battle that girls have to wage.

Maybe it is articles such as this that lead young Hollywood into being pressured to have surgical procedures. When your looks are constantly questioned and compared to others it can leave a girl feeling down. FACT OF THE DAY!

Hope everyone has a great Saturday, and I will catch you guys tomorrow!giphy (3)

Damn Kim! Back at it again with the Cornrows!

YES, so we are in the year 2016, and it seems Cultural Appropriation is still a topic of debate at the top of the list. The same controversy circled last year when Marie Claire labelled Kendall Jenner’s four mini-cornrows as ‘taking bold braids to a new epic level’.HMM

Of course I am all for sharing hairstyles and beauty tips with one another. It is a part of life as a woman; we like to experiment and try new things. But, when the mainstream media do not credit or even show black women wearing ‘the new bold hairstyle’ (didn’t black women kind of invent the hair style ?), it can leave a community of already oppressed individuals, feeling more oppressed.

Why are people still talking about the braid situation ?: I don’t want to get all political with you guys on a Friday, but to sum it up, when a dominant group adopts an element of a culture without acknowledging the existence of its origin, it is evidently cultural appropriation. Not just black women, but any ethnicity would be hurt and feel they’ve been given the cold shoulder when the media only choose to celebrate your culture and history on celebrities because at the time it is seen as ‘cool’. FACT OF THE DAY !
Eurocentric features and hair textures are already kendallcelebrated everyday through mainstream media. I think it should be any media outlet’s responsibility to do background research on things such as hair styles and traditional clothing. Although I may sound petty, people always seem to get hurt or offended, and after all everyone just wants to live in harmony.*sigh*

So on this lovely Friday, just keep in mind the feelings of others and what it means appropriate without proper attribution.

amanda
Have a great day, and I’ll catch you guys tomorrow !

Hope you guys enjoyed this post. Leave your comments below on the issue.
Has there ever been a time where you/someone else has been a victim or participated in cultural appropriation without realising ?

REVIEW: RIHANNA LANDS ANOTHER #1

WORK, WORK, WORK, WORK. Well it is obvious to say that it has paid off!

Rihanna’s ‘ANTI’ album has finally been released. Now was it worth the wait? Well with the lead single ‘Work’ already claiming the top 10 chart position in over 20 countries, and ‘Work’ being  Rihanna’s 14th number one single, it’s safe to say that Rihanna’s work is done!

http://www.tumblr.com

A sleek, electronic hip hop track designed to be stuck in your head for days. The assisted number by Canadian rapper Drake, represents a chill and tropical vibe the song needed. The two part music video that was recently released didn’t leave much to the imagination, the Barbadian singer flaunted alongside Drake.

Rihanna is one of the biggest selling artists in the world and has produced 8 albums in 8 years, and her latest album ‘ANTI‘ offers a vision of sensuality that permeates the pop genre. Whilst others have criticised the song as “UNAPOLOGETIC (pardon the pun) black women showing off their heritage where politics are dominated by #BlackLivesMatter.” Nevertheless this doesn’t take away the fact that Rihanna has evolved from just an R&B singer to a global icon.

Keep slaying Rhi Rhi!!
